Glen Powell — who recently starred as Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick — is gearing up to take to the skies again this fall in the Korean War drama Devotion. Powell and co-star Jonathan Majors will play Navy fighter pilots whose actions in the conflict solidified close air support missions as an essential role of American aviators.
The action-packed trailer for Devotion shows Powell and Majors in the cockpits of Navy Corsairs, the iconic gull-winged fighters that touted an 11-to-1 kill ratio in World War II and are the forefathers of the A-10 Warthogs that provide close air support for our troops today.
In the two-minute teaser, the pair appear diving through flak and anti-aircraft fire to support Marines fighting on snowcapped Korean mountains and then escorting dive bombers on a mission to destroy a railroad hub. A quick shot also reveals a Corsair taking on a Soviet MiG-15,the turbojet fighter that quickly made the propeller-driven Corsair obsolete.
With Maverick still crushing it at the box office, Powell and Majors are poised to cash in with Devotion. Judging from the trailer, the film looks like it will be a riveting ride set against the backdrop of America’s forgotten war.
